The Earth could not sustain the population growth that would occur from the offspring.


Darwin, in his book The Origin of Species, made a point to prove natural selection that drive some individuals to death.

He said that even the elephant, which is one of the slowest breeders in the animal kingdom, would swarm over the planet if it were allowed to reproduce without loss. After 500 years of that scenario, one pair of elephants would leave 15 million offspring.
