The urinary system disposes of waste material and extra fluid (urine) from the body.

Explanation:

The importance of the urinary system is that it filters blood and disposes of the waste materials and extra fluid from the body.

The kidneys are the principal components of the urinary system; they act as filters and homoeostasis regulators. They do this by:

  • Preventing the buildup of wastes and extra fluid.
  • Maintaining the levels of electrolytes like potassium and phosphates.
  • Producing blood pressure regulating hormones.

The rest of the urinary system comprises the ureters, bladder and urethra which collect, store and release urine.
