Why r is included while calculating the speed of earth around the sun but not included while calculating the speed around its own axis?

The orbital speed of the earth is calculated using the radius to obtain the period and velocity.
To calculate the rotation of the earth from first principles you will need the radius from the center, otherwise just use a clock :)
