I'm not sure about the most important but certainly he created a very important invention. (He might have been a patron of someone who did the actual inventing).
Explanation:
His was important because his invention was important. Paper is important today and as a family goes through tons of paper products: newspapers, tissues, packaging, various office products to track work,inventory, advertising, administration, photos, etc.
In his own time paper made record keeping much more accessible which was appreciated. Knowledge could be retained without the use of human memory. Literacy became more possible and with it letter writing. complex information could relayed over long distances.
Planning sketches and designs for construction could be drawn saving time and money. Monetary instruments could be created to move money from person to person. Money accounting is more possible. Paper became more important as time passed as people began to find more uses for it.
