To get rid of the opposition.

Explanation:

It was useful to Hitler because he could get rid of the Communists. The person who set up the fire was claimed to be a Communists(left wing), Hitler used this event to persuade Hindenburg(president) about how dangerous Communists were and by the way get rid of them. That's also the reason why Hitler's Nazi Party was able to gain 288 seats in Reichstag in the 5 Mar 1933 election.
