An increase in population decreases the food supply available for individuals in the population decreasing the quality of life. A decrease in population increases the quality of life because more and better quality food is general available to individuals.

An increase in population results in an increase in crowding which often causes an increase in diseases. An increase in disease causes a decrease in the quality of life. Decreasing the population density will decrease the likelihood of epidemics increase the quality of life.
