You are making Phở, a Vietnamese soup, and have discovered that a concentration of #5.84 xx 10^(-6) "M"# anethole will give the soup just the right flavor. How much of a #4.93 xx 10^(-6) "M"# solution of anethole do you need to make 2.36 liters of Phở?

Recall,

#M_1V_1 = M_2V_2#

Hence,

#=> V_2 = (M_1V_1)/M_2 approx 2.80"L"#

of the solution must be added to your soup to taste "just right"!

I would boil off the extra water if you want exactly #2.36"L"#, or make it in a laboratory with a different technique, whatever you want.

[This is NOT a dilution problem, since the concentration you want is higher than what you started with.]
