The commutative property of addition means that it does not matter what order in which you add numbers. You will get the same answer either way. It is represented as a + b = b + a, in which a and b are real numbers. However, the property is not limited to two numbers.

Examples:

  1. 2 + 4 = 6 and 4 + 2 = 6

  2. 3 + 1 + 8 = 12, and 8 + 1 + 3 = 12, and 1 + 8 + 3 = 12, etc.
