The mass percent of a solution is calculated by dividing the mass of the solute by the mass of solution and multiplying times 100%.

#"mass percent"# = #"Mass of solute"/"mass of solution"# x #"100%"#

For example, 58.4 g NaCl are present in 525 g of solution. What is the mass percent?

#"mass percent"# = #"Mass of solute"/"mass of solution"# x #"100%"#

#"mass percent"# = #"58.4 g NaCl"/"525 g of solution"# x #"100%"# = #"11.1%"#
