Weel, I know of two soil loss processes caused by the action of the water. 1 - the soil loss process can occur trhough loss of thin layer of soil trhough diffuse erosion or "sheet".
This process of erosion is virtually imperceptible, for not leave traces so visible in the landscape, but it is one of the most serious forms of erosion just by its subtle character.
2 - the second type of soil erosion, unlike the first one, is more concentrated form in order to create the ground linear features (hence its linear erosion name), which can be deepened forming gullies (as shown here), this type of erosion is by concentrated action of water can be accentuated if not measures are used to circumvent the problem.
