A person walks at a speed of 2.00 m/s for 10.0s and then walks at a speed of 1.50 m/s for 8.00 seconds. What is the average speed? I'm using the formula Average Speed=Total Distance/Total Time and I'm not getting the correct answer.

Total distance for the first 10 s = s xx t = 2 xx10 = 20 "m"

Total distance for next 8 s = sxxt = 1.5xx8 = 12 "m"

Therefore , total distance d= 20+12 = 32"m"

total time t= 10 + 8 = 18 "s"

So, avg. speed = d/t = 32/18 = 1.78"m/s"

If this is not the answer then please say the answer so that i can help you out.
