#x/y=c#
here # x# and # y# are the variables and #c# denotes the constant

the variation can be expressed as
# color(red)(x) = c . color(green)(y#

Taking an example:

1) assigning a fixed number to #c# (as c is constant)
eg: #color(blue)(c = 2#

the variation becomes
# color(red)(x) = color(blue)(2 color(green)(y#

2) assigning values to #y#

  • #color(green)(y = 1# ,then #x= c.y = 2.1 , color(red)(x= 2#
  • #color(green)(y=2),x = 2.2, color(red)(x = 4#

There is a direct variation between #y# and #x# , as #y# goes on increasing, so does #x#.
So basically #x# varies in the same manner as #y#

Looking at a more practical example.
Distance= (Speed)x(Time)

here as speed increases the distance covered would also be greater.
