When an electrochemical cell no longer works, can it be recharged before it can be used again?

It all depends on the type of battery.
Electrochemical cells such as the dry (Leclanche) cell or the mercury cell cannot be recharged and reused once it is used up.
But, cells like the lead accumulator or the nickel-cadmium battery can be used again after recharging.
