How is refraction related to lenses?

Refraction occurs in lenses. The ray of light bends towards the normal.
The geometrical shape of the lens refracts the light ray in the desired way for the desired practical use.
Without the phenomenon of refraction, the lenses would not work at all.
To check this fact, if one could put a lens with material of known refractive index into some liquid of the same refractive index, the lens becomes invisible. Thus, it no more behaves as a lens inside the liquid.
This perfectly illustrates the fact I explained in the first paragraph.
