Although they are different, they can do some similar actions, for example: both are able to cause deflection in a beam of electrons.
In an oscilloscope, the deflection is electrostatic and caused by four plates (two vertical + two horizontal) inside the Cathode Ray Tube.
In other hand, in old TVs and computer monitors, which use Cathode Ray Tubes, the deflection is provided by 4 magnetic deflection coils (2 vertical + 2 horizontal), mounted external to the tube.
The effect of both is the same: the sweep on the screen.
In radio/tv transmissions, the transmitting antenna generates two fields: electric and magnetic, separated by a 90° angle. That is why it is called electromagnetic field.
