Mass is the amount of material within an object, and is independent of gravity. Weight is how much force gravity exerts on that object, which is found with

(#"weight" = overbrace("mass ")^"in kilograms" * overbrace(" gravitational acceleration")^(= 9.81color(white)(l)"m/s"^2)#)

Or

#ulbar(|stackrel(" ")(" "w = mg" ")|)#
