The centrosome starts forming spindle fibers during prophase. These fibers will pull the chromosomes to the side of the cell during the anaphase later on. When the centrosome starts forming the spindle fibers and while they are still short, it looks like a star as these fibers go all around. This centrosome with the short fibers radiating from it is what is called the aster body, and of course there are two of them one for each side of the dividing cell.
