To survive!

Explanation:

Whenever one wishes to adapt to a place and make it one's habitat, the first thing to be done is to make use of the things present there. And water is the most basic and abundant element found on Earth.

More than 90% of the chemical reactions involve water as a by product as perhaps that is why even we humans are made up of about 70% water. It is required when we work, sleep and even when we breathe. Plants require it for photosynthesis too. It is the most harmless liquid ever discovered. It is the building block of our existence!

Perhaps it would be fitting to say that we survive because we could adapt to water, for who knows, if water was harmful for us where we might have ended up!
