Explanation:

There are 2 ways we use synoptic weather charts to predict movement of lows. The first and easiest way is to take the half of the 500 hPa chart wind. So if the wind at 500 hPa is out of the west at 60 KTs, we would move the low 30 NM east every hour.

The second way is to plot the historical movement of the position of the surface low. If you look at a surface complete chart behind a low you will see a dashed line with a series of black dots. Each of these dots represents the position of the low on the previous chart.
