A molecule is a collection of atoms which are chemically bound together.

Explanation:

A molecule is when one or more atoms are chemically bonded to each other. This implies that they are in a stable state and that it takes a chemical reaction to change the molecule.

It the atoms are of different types, we call the resulting substance a compound, e.g. #H_2O# which is water - a molecule containing 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Some molecules contain all the same type of atom, e.g. #O_2# which is diatomic oxygen - this is how we normally find oxygen in nature.
