#color(blue)( = 2.56#

Explanation:

#a / color(blue)((3.2)) = 0 . 8 #

#a = 0 . 8 xx color(blue)((3.2) #

#a = 2.56#

#a= 2.56#

Explanation:

Where possible I try and avoid decimals. They are quite often not as precise as a fraction.

Write as:#" "axx 1/(3.2)=0.8#

Multiply #1/3.2 # by 1 but in the form of #1=10/10#

So #1/3.3# is the same value as #1/3.2xx 10/10 = 10/32#

We now have #(10a)/32 = 0.8#

Multiply #0.8# by 1 but in the form of #1=10/10#

So #0.8xx10/10 = 8/10#

So we now have #(10a)/32=8/10#

Divide both sides by 10

#a/32=8/100#

Multiply each side by 32

#a=(8xx32)/100 = 2 14/25 -> 2.56#
