In binomial nomenclature, what does the first name represent?

In Binomial Nomenclature , first word denotes GENUS name and second word denotes SPECIES name.
example - Mangifera indica
Mangifera is genus while indica is species.
Also , Genus name should start with capital letter while species name is to be written with small letters only.
