Both of these require substantial energy input (why so?). You can look these up, and you will find that they consume immense amounts of salt, and energy.

It is used as road salt, where its dissociation helps melt the ice (and turn your motor into a rust bucket). This is certainly a chemical application.

It is also used to extinguish metal fires in commercial extinguishers.
