Ribosomes read codons of the mRNA to assemble amino acids into polymers (chains) that will become proteins.
A ribosome consists of two sub-units. In eukaryotes the two sub-units are 40S and 60S. In prokaryotes, the two sub-units are 30S and 50S. The S stands for Svedberg units.
