The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

Explanation:

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was a sweatshop in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City. Most of their seamstresses were Jewish and Italian immigrant women in their late teens and early 20s. To prevent employee theft, the owners kept the doors to the workrooms and stairwells locked. In 1911, the building caught fire, killing 146 workers. It was the worst industrial disaster in the city's history and it galvanized the labor movement and resulted in stronger workplace safety regulations.
