The soln. is #x=-1, y=0#

Explanation:

Just add the eqns. to get,

#6x+2y-6x+2y=-6+6#

#rArr 4y=0 rArr y=0#

Putting #y=0# in the first eqn., we have, #6x=-6 rArr x=-1#

Notice that adding the eqns. was, in fact, elimination of #x#.
