Explanation:

Newton's laws of gravitation tells us that one body will exert an attractive force on another body by virtue of its mass. This is summarised in the formula below which quantifies the force between two bodies (which we will call A and B):

#F = G(m_Am_B)/r^2#

Where G is the universal gravitational constant, m is the mass of each body and r is the separation between the two bodies.

So mass A will exert a gravitational force of attraction on mass B, and mass B will exert the same gravitational force of attraction on mass A (except it will be in the opposite direction to that force which A exerts on B).

This applies to all bodies, whether 2 tennis balls , or 2 planets.

It can bee seen that this is indeed consistent with Newton's 3rd law, that if A exerts a force on B, then B will exert an equal and opposite force on A
