Liver is regarded as an associated gland in digestive system.

Explanation:

Liver is metabolically active, but one of its most important function is secretion of bile juice. Bile is delivered into the duodenum (part of small intestine) where bile salts helps in emulsification of dietary fat.

Only emulsified fat gets digested by action of lipase enzyme inside small intestine.
