Explanation:

Glycogenolysis occurs in the liver and in the skeletal muscles as well. However, each organ undergoes glycogenolysis for different reasons.

The liver undergoes glycogenolysis to maintain blood glucose levels while the muscle undergoes glycogenolysis for contraction. The muscle lacks the necessary enzymes responsible for delivering the glucose molecules into the blood plasma and hence uses them for itself to generate energy to do work.
