Mendel's First Law is known as the Law of?

1 Answer

Mendels First Law is known as Law of Segregation. The law underlines the fact that genetic characters are never diluted nor mixed nor lost.

Explanation:

Law of Segregation states that mendelian hereditory factors (=alleles) separate during gamete formation.

Every individual contains two alleles for each trait. During meiosis these separate such that each gamete contains only one of the alleles.

Paternal and maternal chromosomes get separated during meiosis and formation of gametes. Gametes from both parents will eventually get fertilised. In a zygote each parent contributes single allele of one gene.

Thus each parent contributes a single gamete and a single allele copy to their offspring after fertilisation.
