Embryonic stem cells are cells derived from the undifferentiated inner cells of a human embryo

Explanation:

The human embryonic stem cells are pluripotent i.e. they are able to grow and differentiate .The human embryonic cells can also form a differentiated tissue in - vitro. This allows them to be employed as useful tools for research.

Due to their plasticity and potentially unlimited capacity for self renewal, embryonic stem cell therapies have been proposed for regenerative medicine and tissue replacement after injury or disease.

Disease that could be treated by stem cells include a number of blood and immune system related genetic diseases, cancers , Parkinson's disease, blindness, juvenile diabetes and spinal cord diseases.

The use of human embryonic stem cell evokes ethical concerns because the blastocyst stage embryos are destroyed in the process of obtaining the stem cells.
