Displacement is a vector quantity which refers to how far from the original position an object is.

As the book returns to initial position, displacement is zero.

On the other hand, Distance is a scalar quantity which refers to the ground covered by the object during its motion.
As the book moves once around the perimeter of a tabletop, the distance traveled is one perimeter of the table top.

Perimeter#=2(l+b)=2(2.0+1.0)=6.0m#
