Embryo formed other than the normal zygote.
Explanation:
- In normel conditions, the embryos are formed from the zygote by the process embryogenesis. But in some cases, the embryos are develoded not from the zygote, but from the other cells of vegetative tissues. This type of embryo is called as the adventtive embryo.
- It is also known as known as somatic embryo. It is reported into different plants. Generally, endosperm is not formed in this type of embryo.
- Applications of this process include:-clonal propagation of genetically uniform plant; elimination of infected viruses; for genetic transformation.
- It is mainly produced in vitro medium.
