If this problem is #3/(4y) = 24# then you do the following to solve:

Multiply each side of the equation by #4y#:

#(4y*3)/(4y) = 24 * 4y#

#3 = 96y#

Now divide each side of the equation by 96:

#3/96 = (96y)/96#

#1/32 = y#

However if this problem is #(3/4)y = 24 then you do the following to solve;

Multiply each side of the equation by #4/3#:

#(4/3)(3/4)y = (4/3)*24#

#(12/12)y = 96/3#

#1y = 32#

#y = 32#
