They can use this information to change behaviors and/or practices to reduce their carbon footprint.

Explanation:

After calculating a carbon footprint, the business or person can use this information to change behaviors and/or practices to reduce their carbon footprint.

For example, if a business sees that it has a very high carbon footprint and that most of this is generated from heating costs, the business can look into more efficient heating options. The business could choose to upgrade their windows so they don't allow cold drafts of air in or install more insulation. If a company sees that a large portion of their carbon footprint comes from electricity, the business could decide to install solar panels to generate a portion of electricity or they could replace all light switches with motion activated lights.

A person with a high carbon footprint can also make changes to their lifestyle or behaviors. If a person determines that a large portion of their carbon footprint comes from the amount of driving they do each week, he/she could carpool with coworkers or make fewer trips for errands by consolidating shopping trips.
