One mole of gas will have number of molecules #=6.022xx10^23 " molecules"#
Also standard molar volume of a gas at STP is #=22.4l#

Using above two relationships the occupied volume per molecule of gas at STP (which is not same as the volume of a molecule)#=(22.4xx10^3)/(6.022xx10^23)approx3.72xx10^-20cm^3#

  1. It is true for all gases.
  2. It is also assumed that the molecules are evenly distributed. Therefore, each molecule occupies an imaginary box having this volume at STP.
