Explanation:

The Aztecs were extremely below the Spanish level of technology, so when the Spaniards used their firearms, the Aztecs interpreted it as some "heavenly weapon". Same thing with horses, when they saw these men ride in horses, it made them seem like deities (as they are of course in a higher position due to being mounted on the horse).
