I would compare the regular household mopper with cilia and mucus acts as water which helps in removing the dirt from floor.

Mucus is sticky and traps the dust. Cilia then push the mucus away towards external nasal openings.

Mucus is secreted by goblet cells of epithelial lining present all along respiratory tract.

Cilia are hair like projections present on apical surface of other epithelial cells, columnar in shape.

Cilia can move in rhythmic fashion to continuously move the mucus on epithelial surface. In case of trachea, cilia pushes the mucus towards pharynx.
