Let total number of children at the zoo be #x#

#3/8th# 0f total children being girls, the number of girls are #=(3x)/8# and the numer of boys will be #=x-(3x)/8 =(5x)/8#

By the problem there are 124 boys more than the girls.

So #(5x)/8-(3x)/8=124#

#=>(2x)/8=124#

#=>x=124xx4=496#

total children count is 496

Explanation:

Let the count of girls be #g#
Let the count of boys be #b#
Let the total count be #t#

Proportion of girls given as #3/8#
This means that the proportion of boys is #1-3/8=5/8#

Thus #" "b-g" "=" "(5/8-3/8)t" "=" "2/8t" "=" "1/4 t#

It is determined that #" "b-g=1/4t=124#

#t=4xx124 = 496#
