The answer is $m + 2$ $m+2$

You are basically combining like terms. Think of $m$ $m$ as apples.

You have $- 8$ $-8$ apples $+ 8$ $+ 8$ apples, therefore that would equal $0$ $0$ .

You have still one apple left and $2$ $2$ , so

$m + 2$ $m+2$

You can only add and subtract like things, e.i you can't add $2$ $2$ apples to $5$ $5$ oranges and say you have $7$ $7$ oranges, that's impossible.

This is the same concept.
