Explanation:
Vertebrates contain all animals that possess backbones, gills and a central nervous system in atleast one phase of development.
They include the amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds as well as the jawless fishes, bony fishes, sharks and rays.
All vertebrates are built along the basic chordate body plan, a vertebral column running through the length of the animal with a spinal cord ( tube of nerve tissue) and the gastrointestinal tract below it.
