Jerusalem is important to a number of religions.

Explanation:

Christian religions of all types have an interest keeping access to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, the place of Jesus's Crucifixion and burial.

The Israelis want to keep access to the only remaining wall of the ancient Temple of Herod. Which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. This is the Wailing wall or Western Wall. It is the most Holy place in the Jewish Religion.

The Arabs want to keep access to the Dome of the Rock, a Mosque built on or near of the Site of the Temple of Solomon. But is also the site where Mohammad ascended to heaven.

These 3 important buildings and more make Jerusalem so important.
