Opposite charge appears on both things .

Explanation:

Law of conservation means the total charge of the system remains conserved over a period of time .
when a glass rod is rubbed with silk cloth charge appears on both but positive on one and negative on one such that if initially it was neutral then after rubbing glass rod obtains +q and silk cloth obtains -q and hence the total charge remains zero on system . Same happens with all other pair of bodies showing this nature .
