#r=-14#

Explanation:

First, add #4# to both sides

#r-4color(blue)(+4)=-18color(blue)(+4)#

#r=-14#

#color(brown)-color(brown)14#

Explanation:

First, by transposing method(that is sending numbers from RHS to LHS or vice versa), we'll send the LHS negative number -4 to RHS.
Remember, whenever a negative number is going from LHS to RHS or vice versa, the number changes to positive, and the opposite happens too.
So,
#color(red)r = -color(blue)18 + color(green)4#
Then, we'll solve the LHS side because they both are numbers and can be solved.
#color(red)r = -color(blue)14#
Here, it becomes #-14# instead of #-22# because one number is positive and the other is negative
And whenever this happens, if the negative has a larger number than the positive number, that number will stay as negative and vice versa.
The meaning up there of larger number is just seeing the number instead seeing if it is negative or positive.
And if both the numbers are reciprocals of each others, for eg. #20 and -20# the answer will always be #0#
