Explanation:

By separating #j# you will get something like this:
#2x-3y-2+(x+y-4)j=0#
Since #j# can have any value (not necessarily zero,) you need to cancel it out by setting it's coefficients to zero. (2x-3y-2 should be zero as well).

#2x-3y-2=0#
#x+y-4=0#

And therefore #x=14/5#, #y=6/5#
