How many wars has India been in?
1 Answer
Fewer than you think.
Explanation:
Over the span of History the Indian sub continent has had only a few really bloody wars. Matthew White in his book of the 100 deadliest atrocities only mentions: Bahami-Vijayanagara (1366),Aurangzub (late 17 Century) and the Partition of India (1947), and The Bengali Genocide (1971).
All were conflicts between Muslims and Hindus. In terms of modern wars there have been 4 since 1947 all between Pakistan and India. Sri Lanka had a long Civil War as well between Tamils and Sri Lankans.
One other set of atrocities was a number of famines that occurred under British rule. The death toll of which was much greater than all the others together and is a series of relatively unknown events.
