A centriole is a structure in animal cells that will position the chromosomes for mitosis or meiosis. They need to be lined up in pairs at the centre of the cell. A cilia is a hair-like structure on the surface of a cell that can move the cell around. A flagellum (flagella is plural) is a long protein syructure used like a whip to propel the cell forward.
