One centimeter is #10^-2# of a meter.

One millimeter is #10^-3# of a meter.

So, #1# centimeter is also equal to #10# millimeters.

If you are changing something from millimeters to centimeters, say #35# millimeters, this is equivalent to #3.5# centimeters.

Hope this helps :)

divide by 10

Explanation:

In the metric system, each subdivision is 10 times that of the previous one, just like coinage where you need 10 dimes to make a dollar and 10 pennies to make a dime. Metric also uses prefixes to identify the relation of that measurement to the "base" one. They are:

Kilo = #1000#x
Hecto = #100#x
Deca = #10#x

Deci = #1/10#x
Centi = #1/100#x
Milli = #1/1000#x

So in meters, one millimeter is one one thousandth of a meter and a centimeter is one one hundredth of a meter. One centimeter is 10 millimeters and 1 millimeter is one tenth of a centimeter.

1 cm = 10 mm
1 mm = #1/10# cm = 0.1 cm
