X = 12

Explanation:

Initially, A man gets 1kg of prawn @$X. So he gets 300/X kgs with $300.

Now cost has increased by $3. So 1 kg of prawn costs $(X+3). Then the man gets #300/(X+3)# kgs with $300.

Now as per question, THE EQUATION IS FORMS AS

#300/X - 300/(X+3) = 5#

Solving :- #300[1/X-1/(X+3)] = 5#

#rArr 300/5[(X+3-X)/{X(X+3)}] = 1#

#rArr 60xx3 = X^2+3X#

#rArr X^2+3X-180 = 0#

#rArr X^2+15X-12X-180 = 0#

#rArr X(X+15)-12(X+15)=0#

#rArr (X+15)(X-12) = 0#

#rArr X+15 =0 , X-12 = 0#

#rArr X = 12, -15# [X Cannot be 0]

Hence X = 12
