The common cold is caused by the influenza virus. When a vaccine for the common cold is made, the scientists researched it on a certain antigen so it may work for that year, but it may not work for another year because the virus evolved, changing its antigen in its entirety. This makes the vaccine useless. It is better to catch the cold than do the vaccine except for people who suffer certain diseases such as cystic fibrosis and people of old age.

There is currently no available vaccine for any viral infection. Doctors will just tell you to let it run its course and you can take other medication to relieve the symptoms.
